In an era of healthcare reform, accountable care organizations, medical and health homes, systems increasingly will integrate addiction, mental and general health care services. As behavioral health departments embark on more effective integrated co-occurring mental and substance disorders treatment and also serve general health more effectively, there is a need for a common language of assessment, service planning and a flexible continuum of care.
This workshop is designed to address these important clinical and systems issues and show how the current and third edition of The ASAM Criteria (American Society of Addiction Medicine) helps focus person-centered assessment and services to implement integrated services. It will address assessment, treatment and systems issues to move from a sick-care to a health and wellness system of care.
OBJECTIVES
- Review the context and background of the general and behavioral health field that has created attitudinal and values differences contributing to fragmentation.
- Identify assessment, treatment and systems issues important in providing integrated services for those with co-occurring mental and substance-related disorders.
- Review concepts and content of The ASAM Criteria that promote integrated services.
